Case Study: Ridgewood Assisted Living

Like most Assisted Living Communities, Ridgewood was using walkie talkies and staff had to return to a nurses station to complete call bell events and respond to pull cords. This workflow required a full time person to answer walkie talkies, direct people and work flow.

Ridgewood Assisted Living, a 74 suite, premier community for seniors located in Nova Scotia, was the birth place of Nxtgen Care. As part of the Bridgewater Retirement Group of Companies owned by David Burke, Ridgewood was part of “proof of concept” conceived by Burke as a way to use technology to enhance care, reduce care giver burden and increase net operating income. In many ways, it was a simple idea for David as he recalls, “we were giving away care and we needed transparent and accountable ways to capture that care so we could properly bill and staff.” Said another way, “we wanted to create better relationships to provide better care and we figured the bottom line would take care of itself. In fact, what we saw from the intelligence Nxtgen was able to create was a direct relationship between better care, better relationships and better NOI.

Over a 6 month case study, Ridgewood saw measureable results that have formed the basis of repeatable proven outcomes delivering a range of benefits for management, staff, residents and resident families.
